The phone at home provides the convenience of using an office phone from home. OIT can set up and provide a phone, with the same extension of your office phone, in your home. Calls made to your office phone will also show up on your home phone, thus allowing you to work away from the office.
Below are some important points to know and understand about phones provided through OIT for home use.
If you dial 911 from your phone at home, you will be connected to the BYU campus police department. You will NOT be connected to the police department in your local area.
All calls made from BYU office telephones will display “Brigham Young University” on the Caller ID for calls placed off campus. This cannot be personalized for individual users.
An Internet connection is required near the location where phone will be installed. Typically, this is different from your standard phone jack. Any wired phone you choose will require a network jack, not your standard phone jack. TFTP access is also required for your phone to function properly. Please check with your internet service provider to ensure you have TFTP access.
