The Virtual Private Network (VPN) Client is required to access protected campus resources from either on or off campus. A client program on the user's machine creates an encrypted connection to the accessed area of the BYU network.
Previously the Cisco VPN Client was used, but has since switched to the newer Cisco Anyconnect VPN Client program.
Allows users to access general resources such as e-mail and remote access to university assigned computers. AnyConnect client should connect to cmps-vpn.byu.edu. Other clients will include the appropriate profile at installation.
Allows administrative access from on and off campus to specific resources in the campus data center. AnyConnect client should connect to dc-vpn.byu.edu. Other clients will include the appropriate profile at installation.
Allows administrative access from on and off campus to specific LDS Philanthropies resources in the campus data center. AnyConnect client should connect to dc-vpn.byu.edu. Other clients will include the appropriate profile at installation.
VPN access is comprised of two parts:
Users must first complete a request from the Order | Modify menu. General VPN access does not need supervisor approval, but Data Center access must be approved by a supervisor.
All access takes 24 hours to process.
When ordering a VPN for a Third-Party/Contractor, you must contact OIT Payroll (firstname.lastname@example.org) to request that the contractor gets the appropriate GRO assignments.
Upon confirmation from OIT Payroll, then complete the request from the Order | Modify menu. In the Additional Information section, include the start/end date, the product they need access to and who the contractor will be reporting to.
After rights have been granted, full-time employees can download the VPN software from the Software Distribution site. Student employees need a full-time employee to sponsor their VPN access and then need to call BYU IT Support (801-422-4000) to download the software. Student non-employees can receive VPN rights, but need to find their own client. BYU will NOT give VPN Client to non-employed students.
