Group Management ensures that campus users have appropriate rights to use network applications and services. This service is a combination of policies, processes, and tools used by OIT personnel to help manage a wide range of needs across campus. The goal is to grant rights to individuals and groups of users so they can access what is needed for their purposes with the University. It is also designed to prevent unauthorized access to services by those who do not have a legitimate need for some services.
Access for university personnel is based on groups contained within the Group Reference Object database commonly referred to as the "GRO" database.

Many groups already exist and can be referenced from the menus in myBYU; however, should a new group be needed, it can be requested by calling the OIT Service Desk. Currently, these groups are referenced through a privileged LDAP account.
