Return to Wired Network
Gigabit Network Connection jacks provide all the basic services of the standard campus 100 Mbps jacks. If an IP Phone is going to be used on a Gigabit jack the phone needs to be Gigabit capable in order for a device connected to the phone’s network jack to utilize Gigabit speeds. Only the Cisco 8961 office phone is Gigabit capable.
Campus employees can order their own jacks or CSR's may order jacks on behalf of others. You must specify if you want 100 Mbps or Gigabit; however, Gigabit is not available in all locations. When ordering, the service representative will inform you whether a Gigabit Network Connection is an option in your location.
Wired access jacks are already installed in employee offices. Gigabit jacks can be implemented on the second jack of a duplex jack system, if unused, or a new duplex jack may be installed. If you need to order an additional jack or move a current one, or to cancel a wired network jack, please contact the OIT Service Desk.
Over the next few years, BYU will be upgrading campus wireless locations to better serve our users. Upgrades will occur on a building by building basis. HD Wireless buildings will have the following benefits:
For a current list of available locations, see the Wired Network page.
