Managed Domain holds in trust running applications owned by others (without actually operating the software) by assembling all the necessary resources and monitoring performance and capacity.
Hosting includes all the necessary component infrastructure services such as:
Personnel in hosting work closely with applications technologists to fully understand operational requirements of hosted applications. They may also coordinate subcontracts with machine-based service bureaus to acquire the needed infrastructure services. The service Includes:
Managed Domain may optionally include data reconfiguration services. Examples include moving data across platforms, or changing configuration data files to reflect business changes.
Hosting normally does not include help-desk support of the application itself; this is a purchasing decision of the buyer.
Note: Provider is responsible for tasks such as monitoring, and application-level security administration. Customer must supply the application and its operational documentation, and all necessary permissions (such as rights to data used by the application); and metrics to be inspected (balancing procedures).
Aspects of quality include application-level disaster recovery, and reliability. Conditions of sale include technical features of the customer's application necessary to maintain the quality of service of the platform for other customers.
